Black Powder Shoot and Picnic, 2nd Sundays

These 2nd Suday Black Powder Shoots are in-costume black powder shooting parties at the Chabot Gun Club- (Map and Directions),. Meet at the Club's Range #4 from 9am to 3pm, $5/person shooting , bring hearing protection (or buy it there). Picnic lunch starts noon-ish, bring potluck food and drink.

Bring any black powder gun, and wear any costume (or none) that you wish. This is a very relaxed site, so you can also bring your own targets, as long as they are not glass and you are willing to pick up the pieces....plastic jugs filled with frozen water are extra fun. They will have some cool metal targets for us to knock over, and I'll bring extra powder and match. This event will be rain or shine, as the range is covered. Call Thorne at 510-233-5065 for more info.

The Chabot Gun Club is in the hills near Castro Valley.

Here's their description of their muzzleloading events (everyone is very friendly!):

Muzzleloading Program information: When - 2nd Sunday Where - Range 4 How Much - $9.00 Nonmember, $5.00 Member Special Instructions - *** RIFLE AND PISTOL *** Chabot Muzzleloaders have a shoot the fourth Sunday of every month on range 4. It's not a highly regulated thing. Sometimes we shoot paper, sometimes steel, sometimes ???? but it's always great to get a dozen coal burners together for a day of makin' smoke. We charge $5 for members, $9 for non-members, sometimes award prizes, most times not. We have been known to have a blanket shoot from time to time. The point is fun rather than competition. You need not be a club member to participate. A lot of the guys wear period clothing and emphasize the historical aspects of muzzle loading arms. Some guys just like muzzleloader shooting. It's all fun. We encourage beginners, young people and hunters. Got a new muzzle-loading gun and don't know what to do? Bring it up! The veterans are proud of their skills and will show you the ropes. Want to see what muzzle loading is about? Come on up!
