Ed is selling his personal sailboat to make room for another build. He built Florence in 1996 to his own plans, inspired by the Cape Cod catboats.
Ed says, "This is the best sailing boat I've ever built. With sails set, she will sail herself without lashing the tiller."
Built from 6mm okoume ply, white oak frames and keel, black locust centerboard logs, honduras mahogany and red merranti trim, Florence is 16ft long overall, beam 6 ft, draft with board up 12". Sails by Bob Hogan are aprox. 115 sq. ft.
Her centerboard is offset slightly to starboard to clear the keel.
The cockpit is ten feet long with seats running full length, or remove the forward half of the seats and dog down the cuddy for dry storage and a very snug place to sleep.
She sits on a commercial galvanized tilting boat trailer, customized with bunks for her hull shape.
